Theology and Down Syndrome: Reimagining Disability in Late Modernity. Cover art: Andrea Mantegna. Madonna and Child. Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence, Italy.
Excerpt
Theology and Down Syndrome is one of the first attempts to think critically, constructively, and systematically about traditional theological topics in dialogue with the emerging field of disability studies. Informed by medical, social scientific, and other discourses that constitute contemporary disability scholarship, this book reimagines established doctrines from the perspective of our modern experiences of intellectual and physical disabilities.

Amos Yong says he hopes this is an edifying work on theology and Down syndrome. It is certainly that but much more. Yong has done nothing less than provide the most comprehensive analysis we have of the philosophical issues surrounding Down syndrome. But more importantly, drawing on an account of the Holy Spirit, he helps us better appreciate how focusing on disability makes us re-think fundamental theological categories.
—Stanley Hauerwas, Gilbert T. Rowe Professor of Theological Ethics at Duke Divinity School

Amos Yong (Ph.D. Boston University) is Professor of Theology at the Regent University School of Divinity in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
